Rolling Stone says Graeber helped create the first New York City General Assembly , with only 60 participants, on August 2.  He spent the next six weeks involved with the burgeoning movement, including facilitating general assemblies, attending working group meetings, and organizing legal and medical training and classes on nonviolent resistance . A few days after the encampment of Zuccotti Park began, he left New York for Austin, Texas .

The WTO Chair at SQU is launching an Essay Award to write a paper (an Essay) on international trade policy and WTO related issues. The Award will consist of a prize of 1000 CHF (Swiss Franc) for each of the winning two papers. The Award is open to all students at SQU or universities inside Oman. The paper must address a topic which is WTO related as suggested below. Other topics will be considered if they are relevant to international trade policy. The paper should state the facts and controversies of the topics and provide a thoughtful analysis of the issue with a literature review summarizing the various methodologies used and results obtained. As a guidance, the length of the paper should be between 15 and 25 pages (double space and normal margin) but longer/shorter papers are acceptable depending on the quality of the analysis.
